This is my family.  The children in my care become a part of all of us.

Welcome to Christine’s Dayhome!

Welcome to Christine’s Home Daycare.  I am located in Kelligrews, NL.  I have been providing excellent care for children ages 6 months to 6 years for the last 4 years.

I have up to date First Aid & CPR for infants & children.  I feel that keeping this basic training up to date is extremely important as I am caring for your most valuable assets, your children.

I have a current criminal record screening certificate and a child protections record check on file if you wish to view them.  I suggest that anyone in the process of choosing child care ask for and view these documents as well as proof of CPR / first aid training.

ABOUT ME

I have two children of my own, Jonathan & Brianna and a wonderful husband, Colin.  Originally from Alberta, I myself grew up in a home daycare environment.  I feel that children can benefit from being around other children but still be in a home environment.

We recently moved to Newfoundland to be closer to family.  My husband is originally from Newfoundland.  For the past 4 years, I have operated my home daycare in Alberta and I have decided to continue it here.

Preschool Curriculum

I currently offer a preschool curriculum which includes teaching the children their numbers, letters, colors and shapes.  The program is geared towards children aged 3 and up.  Depending on the child’s individual assessment, we may start the program early if the child can demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding.

We also do sound recognition and basic adding and subtracting skills.  The emphasis is on the children having fun learning.  We want their first experiences in a school like environment to be positive and to promote a lifelong love of learning.

Along with the learning of letters, numbers and such, we do a story time where each child has a chance to help reading a book to the other children.  These books are basic and the majority of the books I read to them, they help me tell the story to get them involved in the process and they all seem to enjoy it very much.

It is my personal belief that if a certain child is not ready for the program, I do not force it on them.  I feel by doing so, I would only have a negative impact on their desires to learn in the future.  This is not to say I will not push and challenge them to learn, just that it will not be pushed on them if they are not quite capable.  They seem to let you know when they are ready.  Small cues are noticeable such as wanting to join in the reading or just a general level of interest in what the other children are learning.

I do not give a report card as I am not a school, but I am always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have towards your child’s development.  You may want to create a list of goals that you may want your child to master before he / she starts school and this is okay.  If this is something you might want to pursue regarding your child, feel free to contact me and ask any questions you may have, I will be glad to help.
